Features Alberta Watercourse Crossing I
Alberta has several fish species in significant population decline: Athabasca Rainbow Trout, Arctic Grayling, Bull Trout and Westslope Cutthroat Trout.
Habitat fragmentation, erosion, and sedimentation from poorly constructed crossings and fords are the main threats to fish survival.
The magnitude of the fish habitat restoration challenge is considerable, with hundreds of thousands of crossings across the province, spanning multiple industrial sectors, regulatory authorities and backcountry trails.
This new mobile app supports a data management system by capturing the spatial location and condition of crossings from multiple users; public/recreationists, roadway owners and regulators.
This will help provide information to more accurately define the extent of the problem and assist in efforts towards effective watercourse crossing management.*WCP Website https://www.alberta.ca/watercourse-crossing-program.aspx*RWCI Manual (pdf): https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/a832eee1-53b4-45f7-a46c-8e81b498080f/resource/d338eb1d-5609-4a3a-bc96-e876442df0c4/download/6799953-2015-roadway-watercourse-crossing-inspection-manual-version-5.2.2.-2015-03-13.pdf*AWCCC Website https://www.awccc.ca
